Project Description

Dogs That Make a Difference: short story, creative nonfiction

Dogs that make a difference COVER  Dogs that make a difference

As a volunteer with Delta Therapy Dogs, in 2014, I was invited to write a personal short story about visiting aged care facilities with both my dogs Jett and Roxie for the book, Dogs That Make a Difference, published by Penguin Books Australia.

While my story was about both dogs’ experiences as therapy dogs, it was mainly centred around our Rottie mix boy Jett (who, sadly, we farewelled in May 2020).

My submission was well received by the editor, with very few changes made to the first draft. They also ran with my choice of title: A Gentle Giant Finds His Feet.

I was delighted that my photos of my dogs also made the back cover (far left image on back cover), and a colour full page image inside the book.

This was a triple coup for me – as a writer, amateur photographer and dog lover!
